Maggie, a young woman, falls in love with another young woman,
Kim, hours before her mother Lila and brother Paul move in with
her. The four end up sharing a household while Maggie tries to keep
her "little" secret from her mother. Maggie's circle of friends
include the pre-operative transgendered nightclub singer Judy, who
is in love with Maggie's repressed boss, Frances.
Mother Lila steps onto this carousel of love, becoming best friends
with Judy--unaware that Judy was, until recently, Jeremy. A night
of wild abandon for all the characters is followed by a dark night
of the soul. It takes an explosive climax to prompt them all to
bare their souls and come clean.
Better Than Chocolate is a romantic comedy about unusual characters
trying to find a way to make their lives and loves simpatico--it's
about love on the fringe.
